Whether you travel on business of for pleasure, spending time in a new city can be a daunting prospect. Cities can be big places, which can make searching for the right hotel or restaurant an impossible process. Thankfully, there are sites like TripAdvisor that make the process much easier: you can search for just about any kind of establishment and do so geographically, ensuring to find not only the best place but also the one that closest to where you are. TripAdvisor is also great for businesses, since it is an organic way to promote your brand by creating a profile on the site and then inviting customers to share their experience. You can add photos of your restaurant, for example, and even website and telephone details so as to give users every possible piece of information they might need when it comes to booking over the Internet.

TripAdvisor offers an easy way to find the best hotels and restaurants, but of course it can be difficult to search for these when you are out and about. Or when you are on vacation and away from your computer, for example. It’s a great way to plan your trip in advance, but many people choose to make these decisions when on the go. As such, there is the official TripAdvisor app which brings all the functionality and entire database of the website to your mobile device. You might decide on a whim that you want Chinese food when trekking through the back streets and side alleys of Paris, for example. If you have mobile internet, you simply open up the app and share with it your current location, then let the app make a suggestion as to the best Chinese restaurant in your area – there are also price estimations, so you can pick how much you want to spend, and there’s even the option to reserve a table!

TripAdvisor has become so great because of the community, and the fact that users won’t hesitate to give a bad rating to a restaurant or hotel that they hated – nor will they hesitate to upload photos of their tasty dessert! As such, you can be sure that the image of a given establishment that you are viewing on the app is an honest one. If a place overcharges, you’ll know about it beforehand! This can be related to one small thing that we would love to see improved with the TripAdvisor app. We wish that it allowed you to access the forums and message-boards, as well as the profile page and comments/ratings for each establishment. Often, it is reading through these pages that you really find the good and useful information that will help you out when travelling. Or, for example, if you are unsure of something: you can simply put a new post up on the forum and wait for those with more experience to reply and steer you in the right direction.
