NFL Mobile is the National Football League’s official mobile app and is available for a variety of different platforms including iPhone and iPad. It has been updated for the current season and brings more of the latest news and views to your phone than ever before. Whether you are after the latest stories, in-game highlights, live scores or simply love playing Fantasy Football and want to manage your team on the go, this is the perfect app for all NFL lovers with an iPhone. There are many different publications out there that report on the sport of American football and even have apps that you can use to keep up with the latest news, but in our experience there’s nothing quite like getting all your news from the source – that being the league itself, and all the exclusive stories that typically break first on NFL.com.
So what kind of features does this app provide for the avid football fan? Well, for starters you can keep up with all the game day action in a variety of ways. There is the live scores section which is perfect for those on a data plan, in that it is not much of a strain on your connection. If you open the Gamecast page when a game is in progress, you will see live text updates of every play as well as an updated illustration of where the ball is on the field and who has possession. For those that have unlimited data or are on a WiFi connection, there is the videos section that brings you all the biggest plays as they happen. Then of course you have all the latest news, which can be delivered in alert format and customized depending on your favorite team or conference. Finally, there is the Fantasy Football section which lets you manage your squad in the palm of your hand!
We should note that this app is free to download and gives fans all the basic features without charging, but those who wish to watch or listen to games live will have to pay a subscription fee. Unfortunately, even for those customers that are on a network that will support this kind of contract, there are frequent complaints about the service being unsatisfactory. The live video feature in particular has caused no end of complaint among fans who only wish to keep up with their favorite team when away from their TV. The live video only works with iPhone and iPad for starters, and even then it is patchy at best. The app’s interface tends to clash with the video player rather than present it in an efficient way, and users are often forced to restart the app when video and radio streams go down – in the middle of all the action!
